Caves of the Heart

The caves of the heart represent a personal sojourn into the causes and conditions whereby individuals hide their hearts and thereby become less than fully functioning human beings. Hiding our hearts is a distress response to various trauma, as we humans seek to protect ourselves. The dance to hide the heart has many manifestations. Some resort to dancing with constant change as they are continually inspired by new desire (fire--below left); Some regress into the cave of materialism (the earth--below middle) Some immerse themselves in emotional secrecy (water--below right). The great challenge is to recognize our own patterns and walk into the fear of the unknown, thereby collapsing the patterns’ power over us.
