As part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists, artists & community members, I guided Grade 6 students to create images and verses that transformed their newly acquired knowledge and feelings about wetlands into bronze plaques and postcards. These are now “in situ” at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens “Discovery Pond” site in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Over the winter 2001, hundreds of Grade 6 students learned about the beauty and functions of wetlands; through field trips, research and artwork, they created vibrant educational tools for visitors. In the spring, they helped plant the starter vegetation in the pond, aiding in the restoration of a valuable natural ecosystem, that serves nature and humans alike. Children from all over the region now visit the site as part of their schooling.
