Courtyard Revival

Four students chose to revive the courtyard space that occupies the center of the Fine Arts building. This included removing the sick pines from the planters and redesigning the boxes so they bloom with native plants. Research of native, “low water” flowering plants involved speaking with local experts, visiting the local botanical library and selecting appropriate species for the conditions. Students designed 2 types of bird feeders that might lure appropriate bird species (rufous hummingbird, house sparrow & finch, red-breasted nuthatch) In addition, they planned to add rocks in the 3’ deep fountain so birds could perch and drink. This image is a photo of a 3 dimensional model of the proposed courtyard.

These creative changes would certainly bring life and allure to a currently 'dead' zone.

Far left 2 photos are: graphics designs of the proposed planters and the specific plants to be planted.
