Forest Restoration
The planting of local sapling species in a circle, began the reforestation of a clear cut area on
the research station land. In response to the loss of habitat in Costa Rica (due to clear cutting for export beef
cattle over the last 30+ years), Ephraim Peniston chose to plant some local species of trees in order to aid the
restoration process. The celebratory post planting ritual involved drumming and a ceremony. During this dedication,
each person wrote a pledge of something they would do to make a difference in their environment, and they put that
offering in the center compost area. The surrounding saplings (future trees) bore witness. |
